About
Zach Toombs is the executive director and founder of Evident, the Emmy-winning nonprofit newsroom for visual journalism. At Evident and in his previous role supervising documentaries and special projects at Scripps, Zach has produced or led a wide range of award-winning projects utilizing satellite imagery and open-source reporting to cover topics including systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza, war in Sudan, and Iran's nuclear program. Working with open-source researchers, data scientists, and a wide range of partners, from PBS Frontline to Bellingcat to The New York Times, Evident's mission is to produce crucial journalism that is visual and engaging for a wide audience, especially across social media.
Previously, Zach has reported across the world on technology, climate, and energy. He is the winner of 4 Emmy Awards for News and Documentary programs. He lives and works in Washington, DC and is a graduate of the University of Missouri.
