About
Mark Otterlee is a Senior Director of Engineering at the Allen Institute for AI (Ai2), where he helped found, build, and launch OlmoEarth. OlmoEarth combines an end-to-end platform with a family of open multimodal foundation models to help organizations turn Earth observation data into useful models, maps, and decisions. He is also helping shape Ai2's emerging agentic work for environmental and conservation organizations, with a focus on enabling them to build and operate trustworthy AI agents grounded in their own expertise.
Over more than 25 years in technology, Mark has built reliable, large-scale software systems and led engineering teams that turn complex data into usable tools. At Vulcan and later Ai2, he joined Skylight in its earliest stages and went on to lead engineering for the maritime monitoring platform, which combines satellite data, AI, and advanced analytics to help global partners detect illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, understand vessel behavior, and protect marine environments. Earlier in his career, Mark held engineering roles at Microsoft, Demand Media, and ProQuest.
