Brian Perlman is a satellite imagery analyst with the UN and a NASA Lifelines senior fellow focused on remote sensing for human rights investigations and humanitarian contexts. His work primarily focuses on satellite-based remote sensing methods to study armed conflict, infrastructure damage, civilian protection, and International Humanitarian Law. He has co-authored two peer-reviewed publications, serving as first author on a journal article concerning WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) infrastructure damage in Gaza. He has also published work on conflict in Lebanon, Sudan, Ukraine, and elsewhere. Brian is a Fulbright scholar, an FAA-licensed commercial airplane pilot and drone pilot, and a military veteran. He is a member of the Decentralized Damage Mapping Group and the NASA Lifelines Earth Science Review Board. He holds a master's degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's degree in Geospatial Intelligence from Johns Hopkins University.
